Since 1937, the silk scarves of French fashion house, Hermès, has become an iconic fashion accessory that is recognized all over the world. Hermès scarves and shawls have been collected and adorned by celebrities and royals throughout history, from Audrey Hepburn to Grace Kelly and even Queen Elizabeth II. Renowned artists are commissioned each year to create elaborate artworks with bright, vibrant color combinations. An individual scarf typically integrates 20 to 30 different hues, each printed from a unique silkscreen process that can take hundreds of hours to complete. Each one is painstakingly screen-printed, with each color allowed to dry before the next is applied. These art pieces have proved to be timeless collectable pieces of history.

Design History:  The Horsawards - This design by Elias Kafouros – a Greek artist based in Athens – evokes fantasy paintings by English artists of the nineteenth century, in which people are replaced by animals. Elias’s perfectly structured compositions tell stories in which worlds collide, leading us at will from one scene to the next. Our gaze wanders, and is lost, then alights once more on a detail of the unfolding narrative. Elias himself sees his works as books to be endlessly rediscovered. His latest design is an equestrian celebration of the Hollywood of the 1930s: elegantly dressed horses play their roles to perfection in this evocation of the glamorous, annual “Horscars” ceremony. The audience applauds, champagne flows, film reels unfurl and the cameras roll. Framed in a blaze of fireworks, Horscar in hand, the radiant winner steps up to the mic, to begin his acceptance speech.
